This ‘one size fits all’ hardware approach has traditionally discouraged some customers from virtualising highly specialised applications and servers, such as database systems, but this is slowly changing.
The detail in this paper focuses on:
- Initial concerns and points to address
- Before embarking on a database virtualisation project.
- The advances in the hardware domain
- That enables improved power management.
- The reduced cost of ownership and
- Operation, and virtualisation optimisation included within the processor.
Even though focus is on the Oracle database software, many of the points raised would be equally applicable using other DBMS solutions.
